Centenary Celebrations Reunion Weekend
The Cairns State High Centenary Reunion Weekend, the main focus for our 100 year celebrations is only weeks away! The weekend commences with the Back to Cairns High Open Day on Friday 15 September. The school will open its doors and gates welcoming members of the school community. The following night, Saturday 16 September, we go back to 1917 with the Jazz Supper Club, which is the Centenary Celebrations gala event. Tickets are selling fast due to the amazing array of entertainment throughout the night; including a 100 piece orchestra made up of current and past students, and a fireworks finale. All past students and current school community are invited to join us for a fabulous evening filled with nostalgia and good old fashioned fun times.
Back to Cairns High Open Day, Friday 15 September
Cairns State High School will open to the school community on Friday 15 September. Tours will be conducted and memorabilia will be displayed in various places throughout the school. A Legacy unveiling and dedication will also take place. There will be a morning and afternoon session with refreshments provided.
“What an excellent opportunity to come back to the school and see and experience how much has changed! The program being offered will give participants an active level of engagement in the types of learning and activity the 21st Century learner has in their day to day life as a Cairns High student. Meet staff and students from today and years gone by and chat over a lovely morning or afternoon tea,” commented Chris Zilm, Executive Principal.
Back to 1917: Jazz Supper Club, Saturday 16 September – the Centenary Celebrations Gala Event is the special opportunity for all reunion years to come together and celebrate our 100 year milestone. Lucky guests will be whisked away to a swanky speakeasy-style Jazz club. All flappers and dappers, adorned with a long string of pearls or gangster-like pinstripe suit and fedora, are in for a night filled with roaring entertainment, including a 100 piece orchestra and a finale of fireworks. Don’t miss out – it’s going to be the cat’s pyjamas! Tickets are only $50 and available from the school or online. Food service and areas for seating is included, a cash bar will be available. This event will commence at 6.00pm at the school and entry is only via the school’s iconic main entrance. Dressing to the theme is optional, and otherwise semi-formal attire is appropriate.
Over the past 100 years Cairns High has evolved and transformed into a highly sought after, internationally accredited, independent public school with a strong reputation for its excellence programs and opportunities for youth in the Cairns region. Since 1917 this great school has seen much change and has had many inspirational teachers and talented students walk through its hallways and into and out of its classrooms.

The program of events will give everyone an opportunity to return to the school and see the progress we have made and the innovations that keep us focused on the future. At the same time, the strong positive culture of excellence is supported by many valued traditions giving Cairns High strong foundations and fantastic memories,” commented Chris Zilm.
