The Billabong, Kuranda
More than meets the eye
Words by janie barton

Whether it’s a corporate conference, team-building event, workshop, wedding or special celebration, you want your event to be memorable, which is why The Billabong Kuranda is fast becoming one of the most sought-after event venues in the region.

Its location among pristine rainforest and a sensational billabong along with its ability to hold large-scale and small events are major drawing cards, but the popular venue offers much more than meets the eye.
Nestled on a 165-acre site, the locally owned and operated business has full conference facilities, multiple activity areas, catering services, dedicated service staff, entertainment, indoor and outdoor event areas and everything you need for a successful event.

“The Billabong is an excellent events venue,” said Sharky from The Billabong. “Every corporate event or venue hire is customised and catered to accommodate whatever the client requires.”
It’s also the perfect place for people who enjoy a bit of adventure. With Cairns Paintball and Cairns Quads & Adventures on site, as well as helicopter rides and six-wheel military truck tours through the rainforest, there’s no shortage of activities.

“You can stay three or four days and still not take part in all the different activities,” Sharky said. “It really adds a lot of fun to conferences and events and is excellent for team building.”

Completing the perfect venue is Aaron’s Bistro, situated on an expansive deck surrounded by the billabong where fresh local produce, seafood, prime-quality meat and vegetarian options are available. Aaron’s and the Saloon Bar are open for lunch and dinner Wednesdays to Sundays and the chefs can also take care of all catering requirements for all functions large or small.

There is also accommodation on site with a 32-bed guesthouse and full camping facilities for 300. Guests can even enjoy having breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered to their campsite or to the guesthouse from Wednesday through to Sunday.

If you thought The Billabong couldn’t get better, you’ll be impressed to learn that the venue is expanding and will soon include ziplines, driftcarts, human slingshot, boutique-style accommodation, Sunday sessions with music and a courtesy coach service.

“Our guests’ enjoyment is what we thrive on,” Sharky said. “We make sure everyone laughs, everyone is happy and everyone has everything they need.”
