The countdown to the region’s favourite annual celebration is on!

The 2017 Cairns Festival is set to showcase the vibrant, tropical lifestyle and creative spirit of Far North Queensland with a multi-dimensional ten-day program of more than 50 family-friendly events and activities spanning music, art, craft, culture, dance, theatre, comedy and markets.
The Cairns Esplanade will come alive with buskers from 5.30pm on Friday 25 August for the first day of Cairns Festival, as part of Central Queensland University’s Guinness World Record attempt ‘Busk at Dusk’. At 6.30pm there will be a free concert on the official Festival Mainstage showcasing some of Cairns’ finest local talent.

After Friday’s entertaining kick-off, the 2017 program gets underway on Saturday, 26 August with a full day of entertainment starting at the Mainstage on the Esplanade from 10am (until 9pm), including the Festival’s mighty Grand Parade and Fireworks.

Sunday on the ’Nard kicks off the following day, featuring a ‘Festival for Kids’ on the Muddy’s Event Lawn from 9am to 1pm. Youngsters can get stuck into kite making and play a giant mosaic game created by the kids from Hambledon School. Young music-lovers can enjoy drumming action at the Music and Movement Tree, or find their own tune with Upbeat the Drumonster before performing a mini concert for family and friends. A free family concert from 4pm closes out Sunday On the ‘Nard’s all-day entertainment; headlined by the fun and highly acclaimed vintage Bollywood act, The Bombay Royale.

Monday to Friday of Cairns Festival comes alive with events and activities including The Making Place, Suburban Satellites and City Lights.

The Festival ‘Family Film Nights’ are a much loved and popular, ‘under the stars’ tradition that will continue this year where film-goers are invited to bring their picnic rug and goodies to the to enjoy this year’s free screenings over two nights. This year’s feature length, family-friendly films are New Zealand comedy, Three Wise Cousins (Thursday 31 August) and animated Australian adventure, Blinky Bill (Friday 1 September).

On Saturday 2 September the amazing circus ensemble Circa present their brand new show, ‘Troppo’ in Munro Martin Parklands for kids and their adults. The Festival’s much-loved closing event and Father’s Day favourite, ‘Carnival on Collins’, will once again offer a day of free entertainment, plant and market stalls, and fun for the kids.
