Shirley and Hugh Forster have run a successful wholesale gluten-free, vegan and allergy friendly bakery since 2013. In January this year they opened their funky cafe on Hoare Street, much to the delight of their many loyal customers. The reason they branched into the cafe was that they wanted somewhere they could eat that fulfilled their dietary requirements. Rather than being concerned about the ingredients, at Soul Kitchen all you need to worry about is what you’re in the mood to eat and drink!
Shirley has been a vegan since her teenage years and has perfected (and being a cake fiend, I do not use this word lightly!) the art of gluten-free baking, while Hugh has also developed many different desserts and savouries of his own, helping to contribute to their eclectic menu. Soul Kitchen’s menu is ever changing as Hugh & Shirley are constantly experimenting with new ideas and flavours. Some of their staples include the All American Vegan burger, the raw burrito, a soup/stew of the day, pizza, and an assortment of exciting desserts such as their famous Soul brownies, pecan tarts, raw cakes, mudcake and chocolate cupcakes. Their vegan snickers bar is way better than the original, and their parfait will leave you speechless!
